A local citizen’s committee has begun circulating a petition to place on the June 2022 a measure to increase the sales tax to benefit JC Fremont Hospital District.
Since the committee is a group of citizens and not a public agency, the measure only needs 50%+1 to pass. They need 825 valid signatures to place the measure on the ballot.
They are collecting signatures at the following locations:
- June 21-25 @ pony expresso from 7am-9am
- June 26-30 @ ACE hardware from 9am-11am
- July 2-9 @ Pioneer Market
INITIATIVE MEASURE TO BE DIRECTLY SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS
The County Counsel has prepared the following title and summary of the chief purposes and points of the proposed measure:
AN INITIATIVE TO ADOPT A TRANSACTIONS AND USE (SALES) TAX OF 1% FOR 40 YEARS TO DESIGN, CONSTRUCT, AND EQUIP
A NEW JOHN C. FREMONT HOSPITAL
The purpose of this initiative is to adopt a Transactions and Use (sales) Tax of one percent (1%) for a period of forty (40) years to generate the funds needed by the John C. Fremont Healthcare District (District) to design, construct, and equip a new community hospital that meets all seismic safety and other building standards, and to modify and repurpose existing District facilities, including the existing hospital, Ewing Wing, main and satellite clinics, and administrative offices, to better satisfy the current and future healthcare needs of Mariposa County residents and visitors. The District will need to meet strict accountability and transparency requirements for generating periodic reports to the public.
