Team Progressive Mariposa has been on hiatus thru most of the summer, except for an occasional board meeting and a get-together to work on our Bylaws. #FergusonFire caused everyone to lose a month, including us, and we’ve had to adjust our Fall schedule and reconvening accordingly.
We’d hoped to have a draft of our Bylaws ready for review in early August but that date has now been pushed out to SOON™. They are essentially ready for review, we just need to add some parts and pieces to make them more complete. We will definitely have them out before our next meeting on October 27th (yes, October 27th) so we can discuss at the meeting.
With the Bylaws, members in good standing (having paid dues) will be voting to ratify the Bylaws and will be able to serve on the Board of Directors. If you haven’t joined yet or need to update your membership, you can do so on our website at
If you want to pay cash, please talk to Heather Huppe, our Secretary/Treasurer, at one of our meetings.
Next Meeting October 27th
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10am for our next meeting at Miner’s Roadhouse 140. Following that meeting, we will resume meeting the 3rd SATURDAY of each month through May 2019.
At the October 27th meeting, our special guest will be Keith Williams, Mariposa County Registrar of Voters. Keith will be talking about the new voting machines and any changes we should know about for the General Election on November 6th. In addition, we’ll be discussing the debate held on September 23rd, the bylaws, propositions on the ballot, and potential guests and topics for future meetings.
There seems to be some confusion as to Progressive Mariposa’s affiliation. We have stated this at meetings and in print several times over and over, and it’s in our Mission Statement: we are non-partisan. We are not affiliated with any political party.
From our DRAFT Bylaws:
3. Purpose & Scope.
3.1. The Organization [Progressive Mariposa] is a patriotic, non-partisan grassroots group who came together after the November 2016 election. We strive to hold power-holders at all levels accountable. We seek to educate and coordinate our members with timely, non-violent, and appropriate calls to action on specific issues and policies.
3.2. The Organization defines “progressive” as: transcending political values—favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, especially in matters of policy.
3.3. The Organization has been formed to provide a mechanism through which individuals who believe in and support progressive values and objectives may more effectively communicate and collaborate with each other in their support of such values and objectives.
3.4. The Organization seeks to encourage and facilitate progressive, grassroots activism by and among its members and to facilitate increased civic participation.
3.5 While the Organization may endorse positions on issues, it will not endorse candidates.
Have a topic you’d like us to explore at a General Meeting? Have something we should add to the calendar? Have a question or concern you’d like us to explore or research? You’re always welcome to send us an email at email@example.com!
