What’s Going On?
June 12 – 19, 2019
A brief update on things happening here, there, and everywhere (or something like that).
- IMPEACHMENT MARCH – Saturday, June 15, 2019 – NATIONWIDE DAY OF ACTION – Fresno March – #ImpeachTrump rally in Fresno, Blackstone & Nees, at 1:00pm. RSVP HERE.
- MUELLER BOOK CLUB – ongoing – https://www.muellerbookclub.com/ – Sign up with your email address to get news and updates about book club activities, including weekly online discussions!
From the Indivisible website: “Interest in impeachment is (and has been) growing, and knowing where our movement is on this issue is very important for us in determining our response. We surveyed Indivisibles in groups and on our email list to understand:
- How interested they might be in moving forward with impeachment plans
- What were their concerns
- Is there energy to work on this issue.
We found that Indivisibles are really supportive of House Democrats starting impeachment investigations. 80% of respondents believe Democrats should start impeachment investigations and 75% are willing to invest time and energy in working to make that happen.
3,500 people completed the survey between May 30 and June 3, with 26% of respondents identifying as group members or group leaders. These results are reflective of responses from 49 states plus the District of Columbia. No one from ND and PR responded to this survey. The margin of error is +/- 1.66.”
REMINDER: You all are cordially invited to our very first AGM (Annual General Meeting) to be held on Sunday, June 23rd, 2019. The meeting will start at 10:00am and will be held at the Mariposa County Library Community Room (aka Merle’s Room).
We’re still working on all the details for the meeting but we’d like to make this a potluck (snackies and finger foods) – space is limited but we do have some additional space in the foyer and outside (if it isn’t blistering hot).
This meeting is intended to be more of a social gathering but we’ll be reviewing activities from the previous year and planning activities for the year ahead. It may include reports by individual board and committee members. This year, we may even be voting on ratification of our Bylaws! (Note I said ‘may‘ – we’ll at least have a draft to review and discuss).
Among other topics, we will be discussing co-hosting Candidate Forums for the Congressional candidates. In addition, we will be talking with others about co-hosting a CD04-wide community ‘summit’ of progressive groups to be held here in the ‘south district’ sometime in the next year.
A few group leaders and members from sister progressive organizations from throughout Congressional District 4 (and a little beyond) are planning to join us at this first AGM to discuss and strategize collective efforts in the year ahead.
